The Experiment Control Software of WPS is an easy to use software environment that gives the user full control over the design of the experiment protocol and fully automated and validated execution and monitoring of the defined protocols.
The Experiment Control Software facilitates using default templates in standardized experiments whilst concurrently allowing the user freedom to create individual experiments and specific protocols. Once saved, every protocol can be instantly accessed to recreate the same experiment in the future. This has been designed so that super-users are not necessary and all researchers can easily be trained to this capability.
Multiple experiments on the same phenotyping platform with completely different protocols are permissible and performed concomitantly.
Seamless integration with the robust WPS hardware reassures the user that a configured and initiated experiment will be executed without supervision or glitch. If desired, the system has options to update the user on the outcome of every scheduled task by e-mail. The user can also be notified by different media regarding system status.
Plant information management
Digital phenotyping experiments are often just one step in the research pipeline and data security for forward and reverse analyses or to explore other genome-wide correlations critical. Likewise, annotating data and images to the right plant, controls and test, experiments, user ID, date, or other tags is therefore crucial. The Experiment Control Software therefore has several options to import pre-set data from external software or just simply via commonly accepted excel or csv table.
Ensuring precise, controlled and individual plant irrigation is often an integral part of the experiment protocol especially in abiotic stress. If quantifying drought stress response in plants, researchers should be able to very precisely define the watering regimes and annotate these to the appropriate plants.
The Experiment Control Software enables the user to define several methods for plant irrigation- some of these involve innovative and proprietary methodologies that are application and species specific- please contact WPS for more information. These methods can be absolutely quantified or calculated based on the actual weight or the change in plant weight and/or environment including plant container, temporally.
After selecting the chosen irrigation scheme from the range available, and in combination with the WPS weighing and watering unit, very precise and accurate regimes are induced. During the experiment, WPS plant phenotyping Experiment Control Software monitors whether pre-defined set points are met, and in case of a deviation larger than the set threshold, the user will be notified immediately to take appropriate action.
Real time plant management: Operating software provides actual positioning of each individual plant. Individual plant information, ID-status-last movement-active jobs etc, are provided instantly by selecting an icon(s).
Measurement settings and scheduled tasks
Depending on experiment objectives, measurement conditions and parameters, such as zoom, top and/or side imaging, camera settings and illumination are critical to retrieval of the desired digital parameters from the test subjects. This also may extend to the sequence of module use (eg, watering after/before imaging, dark adaption times etc). In some cases the sequence, timing and conditions for the different measurement greatly influence the expression of certain phenotypic traits. Therefore the Experiment Control Software allows the user to set and control all relevant settings from the Experiment Design Interface.
These settings result in a Job Schedule that clearly shows all steps during the execution of the experiment. At a glance the user is informed on status, timing and purpose of previous or next scheduled tasks.
The target of the digital phenotyping systems is to gain actionable knowledge that is derived from the data generated by the system. Therefore storing, managing and exporting files and data is a crucial and integral part of the system software.
All generated data can be traced back to the exact experiment ID, plant tag, job number, time point, image and/or source.
In order to ensure data integrity the Experiment Control Software uses dedicated professional MS SQL database structures and fileservers capable for storing the sometimes huge amounts of data that are harvested from experiments.
The software is capable of being scaled to purpose to accommodate the needs of individual systems with multiple hardware configurations possible to suit security needs, data, storage and analysis optimization strategies.
All raw and analyzed data generated by the WPS phenotyping system is available to the end-user. The user can at all times view and export the data for further analysis. WPS is also open to interfacing with third party software for data in- export- or -back up purposes.
The WPS data reporting tool is a robust experimental reporting tool that turns almost any data source into interactive, actionable information. Researches can create powerful, richly formatted, dynamic reports from the database. Reports transform raw data into sophisticated, interactive dashboards that will enable data overviews quicker and more thoroughly. Researchers are able to configure data overview, filter and exports in multi-formats to reach conclusions or identify areas that need further exploration.
These reports are templates that are designed in consultation with the user to optimize the visualization of the data and information for the defined research goals.
The reports can be exported or stored in various common reading formats.
